Sam Wilson is a Professor of History at the University of Rio Grande, OH, where he focuses on WWI. Bill Lambert: World War I Flying Ace, is a scholarly examination of William C. Lambert from Ironton, Ohio, who served as a fighter pilot for the Royal Air Force in World War I. Lambert’s 22 victories were the second highest number of any American pilot in the war. By the Armistice, Lambert’s total would be surpassed by Eddie Rickenbacker, the former race car driver from Columbus, Ohio. Wilson’s book examines a distinct individual who took part in a war that destroyed individuality and served to define him for the rest of his life. He is also President of the Friends of the Davis Library at URG and actively supports the role of libraries in the local community and the state of Ohio.
